Hello all,
I've done some experimenting with Quantum DLT4000's and 7000
tapedrives under Linux.
The DLT7000 drives as I know them are able to write data in
so called 'streaming mode' at about 5MB/s uncompressed.
The only way I've had the 7000 to work is in the 'normal' tape-
drive mode, so the drive starts to write, stops, waits a while,
writes, stops etcetera, so not what it should have done.
The performance of these drives in this way can be called quite
poorly (1.5MB/s).
I've changed the default 32k for ST_BUFFER_BLOCKS to 96k in
drivers/scsi/st_options.h for these drives, and baked a new
kernel (2.0.36-pre12).
A DLT7000 has an 8MB buffer, so 8192k might be a good value :)
The drives are attached to an AHA-2944 differential card,
and I still use the RedHat5.1 5.0.20/3.2.4 driver.
Is there anybody out there who uses a DLT7000 under Linux,
and is willing to help me on this ?
Since I'm unable to find anything about Linux/DLT7000
regarding this issue, I thought I might try it this way.
TIA
Pieter Krul

This machine runs Linux 2.0.36 on a Pentium II (Deschutes).
It has 256780 kB memory, and was down for backups from
10:01 am to 10:02 am last Saturday. It said "PURGE COMPL ".
Is it necessary to reboot now and if so, how can this be done ?
