The .125 kernel included the 5.1.2 aic7xxx driver (I think, or maybe
5.1.1). In any case, this sounds most like a machine that is failing to
successfully read the SEEPROM. That information can be found in the new
output of the /proc/scsi/aic7xxx/x file. Amongst all the code changes in
the 5.1.0 driver, the init/probe code was probably the most heavily
modified.
