Well, it was one of the slackware boot disks. I checked the WHICHONE and
realized "DUH, the 294x is not listed". If you don't have another linux box
around it's kinda tough to build a new kernel. Luckily, I did have another
Linux box.

I was hoping to use one of the "stable" 1.2.x kernels.
What I finally did is port the aic7xxx.* files from a 1.3.13 kernel and mash
them into a 1.2.12 kernel. This involved commenting out a few bits of code,
which makes me nervous, but it works for now.
I'd include the diffs I performed (which are fairly small), but I'm at work
and my machine at home is not dialed up right now.
I am not confident of my "port" and would very much rather use a version of
aic7xxx.c that was designed for the 1.2.x series of kernels. If there is such
a beast, I want to hear about it. Otherwise, I'd like someone to review my
diffs and tell me "Yeah, that will work" or "man, I can't believe it works.
You're better off with the 1.3.15 kernel".
