You can read/write those DATs using the usual READ and WRITE calls.
The only special commands are revised return data for READ POSITION and
revised data for LOCATE.
I have written a (userlevel mostly) library for reading DAT audiotapes
(assuming the firmware has been changed to an Audio DAT compatible one)
for Solaris 2.4/Sparc. Tested on Linux too, but only partial support for
READ POSITION and LOCATE.
