I think the files in that directory contain information which is read by
Red Hat's init scripts when booting up or changing run levels.

That would be part of the BIOS on the SCSI card itself, the part that
allows you to boot from a SCSI device.  Most likely, it will only work
with a fixed disk (or possibly a removable one), and will only be
installed if one is present.  You didn't want to boot from tape, did you?
