Brian, sorry to bother you again.
:-)
I'm following your advice. I compiled the last (2.1.114) kernel.
I booted up and the first thing it said was:
"syslogd: unable to create /dev/log"
Then, I got lots of these:
"kmod failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k net-pf-1 Errno=23"
and it wouldn't let me use the console, so I telnetted and killed
process klogd, which apparently stopped the message to appear.

Then, I downloaded the last modutils (2.1.85) and when tried to compile
it, I got the following error:

make[1]: Entering directory '/usr/local/src/modutils-2.1.85/kerneld
gcc -02 -Wall -I../include -D_GNU_SOURCE -DDEBUG -DNO_GDBM -c -o
kerneld.o kerneld.c
kenreld.c:32: /linux/kerneld.h: No such file or directory
Make[1]: *** [kernel.o] Error 1
Make[1]: Leaving directory '/usr/local/src/modutils-2.1.85/kerneld'
make: *** [install-bin] Error 2

And, as a matter of fact, the kerneld.h file does not exist under the
2.1.114 kernel tree (and it appears to be in the other ones).
Why is it not there?
Is this the right modutils for this kernel?

I appreciate your help
