Hi, Linuxers! Our group went out confidently and bought
a SCSI card(aka "host adapter") for my Linux box at work,
an EISA bus machine. We want to attach an Exabyte tape
drive to the adapter. The card we bought was an Adaptec
2742. We could never get it to work; the Linux driver,
still in beta, needed to "have the BIOS installed", and
I was assured by the Adaptec tech support that the BIOS
would _not_ be installed since there was no hard drive
attached. My belief is that development on the 2742 driver
is stalled since the fellow who was doing it, at the
U of Calgary, is sick [Best wishes for recovery, Mr Aycock!]
My question to the list: can people recommend a good SCSI
card/host adapter that an Exabyte drive can be attached to?
Best wishes, and TIA,
Alan McConnell
P.S. Apologies if this post appears twice; I think the first
attempt to send did not leave my machine.
