Using aic7xxx=no_reset allows me to boot and use the current aic7xxx
driver. So I guess the problem is in the reset stuff...

To augment this: I have _exactly_ the same problem Ulrich described
(and exactly the same workaround). It's an onboard 2940UW on a 440FX
board with a 200MHz PPro, if that makes any difference.
