Hi,

this is known problem. Doug Ledford is working on new version of
aic driver, trying to fix problems with negotiation along with support
for U2W controllers. You can check progress at
 ftp://ftp.dialnet.net/pub/linux/aic7xxx/7890-Status
(No news for 6 days though :( )

Anyway, there are pre-release versions of his driver in
 ftp://ftp.dialnet.net/pub/linux/aic7xxx/testing/
It works just fine with my hardware - AHA-2940UW,
IBM DCAS-33220 (ultra wide), Quantum Fireball 540S (narrow),
Matsushita CD-ROM CR-508 and Conner CTMS 3200 (tape).
Everything detected and controller sets up correct transfer rates.
I even managed to turn on tagged queuing for DCAS driver.
Your mileage can vary, though.

    Dmitry
