In my previous reply, I assumed wrongly you were trying 2.1.108.
Since there is no significant ncr driver difference involving the
detection code between 2.1.79 and 2.1.107, I would think that the
problem is related to a major difference in the PCI hardware between
the Proliant 5000 and 7000 (bridging, ...).
BTW, 2.1.108 has some changes in the PCI code and a ncr53c8xx driver
major release. You should give this kernel a try, IMO.
