Wide SCSI Adapter success?

Can anyone reccomend as Wide SCSI PCI adapter that already is known
to work with the current Slackware distribution of Linux? I have
an Adaptec 2940-Wide that does not work with the scsinet1 boot disk,
and since I don't have anything other than WIDE SCSI hhard drives
on my machine, I can't install linux first then toy with the kernel.
Suggestions?
