One thing I forgot to mention with regards to rebooting a Redhat Linux-based
server with a HP DLT 40 tape drive attached to it, is that when we rebooted it
after the server went down it has had a constant beeping noise. The first time
the server went down, we had to do a cold power up which meant a long boot
process of rebuilding the file sytem, etc.. We went ahead and did another
reboot proper with the shutdown command. After it booted again, it still had
the beeping. This leads us to believe maybe the SCSI drive (HP DLT 40) for
backup has something to do with it. The second time we booted, the beeping had
an intermittent pattern to it. Somewhat like 3 beeps, 3 beeps, 1 beep,
pause..and keeps cycling through this. Has anyone encountered this? Has
anyone lived through this (just joking)? Again, I appreciate any feedback.
This e-mail is an addendum to the e-mail about getting a Redhat Linux-based
machine to recognize an HP DLT 40 after the server went down.
Thanks again,
