On the "SCSI Timeout on AIC7xxx when PPA is active." thread David Campbell
made a comment about possible conflicts between different drivers. I was
wondering if there were any known conflicts between the PAS-16 and the
AHA-152x drivers?
I have never been able to access my CD-ROM drive under Linux during the 2
years I have been running it. I have posted questions every so often to
different places and tried all the suggestions but nothing has ever worked
(though I think the 1.2.x series would hang when probing the CD-ROM drive so
I would always boot with it powered off).
My machine boots fine with both drivers compiled in the kernel. The
controllers and drives are all detected and identified properly. I can even
attempt to mount an empty CD-ROM drive and get the proper errors (I think),
same when I try to mount an audio CD, slightly different errors, but the
machine keeps running. Only when I attempt to mount an ISO9660 disc does my
machine hang. It spits a bunch of errors (avaible upon request) to the
screen and hangs for about 5 minutes, then after the five minute wait I get
more of pretty much the same errors and the machine stays hung and does
nothing else after that (can still switch VCs and Shift-PgUp/Dn, but not go
to the XWindows display).
Vital Statistics:
Machine: 486DX2/66, 32MB RAM, S3 911a video card, nothing else fancy, just
AT keyboard, modem, serial mouse, and 2 parallel ports, oh and a GUS ACE
sound card, but that was added after I already knew I had problems.
Kernel: 2.0.33, AHA-152x, PAS-16, and standard IDE (none of the buggy IDE
chipset work arounds installed) drivers compiled in.
scsi0 is the aha-152x connected to it are two hard drives, an HP C2234-300,
and a Maxtor LXT-213S
scsi1 is the pas-16 connected to it is the CD-ROM drive which is an NEC
CD-ROM DRIVE:210
Only my /home and /usr/src are on the SCSI drives, / and /usr and the swap
partition are on my IDE drive, so my machine is bootable and usable with out
the aha-152x driver.
Oh the usual, works fine under DOS and 95, but...it my machine would hang
for about 5 minutes when booting NT right when it would access the CD-ROM
drive. After the access light when out, NT would continue loading. Booting
NT with the drive off (it is external with it's own power supply and
connector to the PAS-16 (which is why I don't just hang it off the
aha-152x)) wouldn't hang.
I'm willing to try anything, please help,
Chris
