Hi all

Since this morning we have a strange problem with a Seagate Barracuda
SCSI - Hard Drive.

Is anybody can help me?

Michel Guy Paiement

Please note :
That the message who bgin with "Target 0, channel A,...." will
appear on all login console. And the only thing to do is doing a
	POWER OFF and REBOOT.

The control-Alt-Delete is working, Linux will shutdown
but the message is countinuing to appear on the screen.

========================================================================

Here is a syslog extraction :

The first occurance of the problem:

>>>>>>
May 23 07:10:44 ns kernel: aic7xxx: (abort_reset) scb state 0x1, Data-Out phase, SCSISIGI = 0x0
May 23 07:10:44 ns kernel: aic7xxx: Target 0, channel A, now synchronous at 10.0MHz, offset(0xf).
May 23 07:10:44 ns kernel: aic7xxx: Target 0, channel A, now synchronous at 10.0MHz, offset(0xf).
...
<<<<<<

and there are a lots of these 2 lines, Until reboot.

During the boot, we have in syslog :

>>>>>>
May 23 08:58:28 ns kernel: aic7xxx: Extended translation disabled.
May 23 08:58:28 ns kernel: aic7xxx: AHA-2840 Rev E and subsequent.
May 23 08:58:28 ns kernel: aic7xxx: Using 4 SCB's after checking for SCB memory.
May 23 08:58:28 ns kernel: aic7xxx: Using level sensitive interrupts.
May 23 08:58:28 ns kernel: aic7xxx: Downloading sequencer code...done.
May 23 08:58:28 ns kernel: aic7xxx: Resetting the SCSI bus...done.
May 23 08:58:28 ns kernel: aic7xxx: Scanning channel A for devices.
<<<<<<

After that I tried :
	fsck -av /dev/sda1

and then I obtain :

>>>>>
May 23 08:58:28 ns kernel: aic7xxx: Target 0, channel A, now synchronous at 10.0MHz, offset(0xf).
May 23 09:00:41 ns kernel: aic7xxx: Target 0 underflow - Wanted (at least) (1024) got(512) count(1).
May 23 09:03:21 ns kernel: aic7xxx: Target 0 underflow - Wanted (at least) (1024) got(512) count(1).
May 23 09:03:22 ns kernel: aic7xxx: Target 0 underflow - Wanted (at least) (1024) got(512) count(1).
...
<<<<<

After that I was access a part of data by mounting the HardDrive in
READONLY mode. I Tried to copy this data on an other Harddrive, about
20% of the disk was done when a received:

>>>>>>
May 23 09:22:23 ns kernel: aic7xxx: Target 0, channel A, now synchronous at 10.0MHz, offset(0xf).
May 23 09:23:57 ns kernel: aic7xxx: Target 0 underflow - Wanted (at least) (57344) got(56832) count(4).
May 23 09:23:59 ns kernel: aic7xxx: Target 0 underflow - Wanted (at least) (57344) got(40448) count(4).
...
<<<<<<

REBOOT.

After that I tried the program badblocks, without any succes like you can
see:

>>>>>>
May 23 10:11:23 ns kernel: aic7xxx: Target 0 underflow - Wanted (at least) (57344) got(56832) count(4).
May 23 10:11:24 ns kernel: aic7xxx: Target 0 underflow - Wanted (at least) (57344) got(40448) count(4).
