I'm post this in hopes that it might help others.
No one from the Linux community replied to my report of this bug
in the SCSI driver.
That bug is!
A Complete System Lockup (keyboard mouse etc while in X windows or
not. e.g. from VC) While trying to read a CD-R made on a mitusmi CD-Rom Recorder.

My machine: Nec Powermate 486 DX2/66
Linux 2.0.32 with an Adaptec 2742AHA with an NEC cd-Rom drive
trying to read a CD created with DirectCD for Windows on an 95 machine.
The error messege is a Time out error, while trying to read the cd.
The a SCSI bus reset messege then BANG! LOCKUP time.
----------
>SCSI host 0 abort (pid 11510) timed out-resetting
>SCSI bus is reset for gost 0 channel 0
>(scsi0: -1:0) Reset device, active scb0
>scai0: Resetting Channel A
>SCSI0: Channel reset, sequencer restarted
>SCSI host 0 abort (pid 11510) timed out-resetting
>SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 Channel 0
>[] NOTE: this is a blinking cursor, no mouse control, no keyboard
responce to ANY key combination, even the LED's are off !
POWER DOWN RESET!

If I look at the CD with MS dos, and Adaptec's EZSCSI drivers NO Problem.

However, with Windows NT 3.51 The CD-Rom is not recognized.

IF we do a mirror image copy of a commerical CD-Rom then Win NT 3.51 And Linux DOES read it.

Dear John,

We are sorry this reply has taken so long. Sorry Direct CD converts the
CD to an ISO 9660 level 3 which is readable by 95 and NT4.0, not Dos or
NT3.5X One can do one of tow things, do a CD to CD copy of the CD created
by Direct CD (this will make the copy ISO level 1) or acquire Easy CD
Creator Deluxe (which writes in ISO and not UDF so no conversion and no
level 3 [unless one sets it]) One can obtain our latest software, Easy CD
Creator Deluxe 3.01b, from our software sales (1-800-442-7274) or the web
at http://www.adaptec.com/products/store/pcsoftware.html
