This DAT works under linux?

We use the C1555B (the internal version) without problems.

The drive itself is a narrow (50-pin) SE device.  I would be surprised
if the external model as a 68-pin wide connector.  HP's web site says
it includes a 50-pin to 68-pin cable, but doesn't seem to mention the
connector on the enclusre specifically.
