I recently installed RH4.2 on a Compaq Proliant (EISA bus)
... onboard scsi controller .....it had no trouble finding it during
installation and after installation it is reported as:
scsi-ncr53c7,8xx at PCI bus 0, device 12, function 0
scsi-ncr53c7,8xx: NCR53c810 at memory 0x42000000, io 0x7100, irq 10
This may be different (710/810?), but just wanted to offer the above in
case it helps out.........
