We've got an Alpha XL-300 with onboard ncr 810 controller that is
suffering from terminal scsi bus lock. The scsi controller is attached to
a fujitsu 4gig 80 pin (sca-2?) drive with an 80-50 pin adapter. I'm
afraid I don't know the exact model of drive but I certainly can find out
if anyone needs to know. When say unarchiving software to the drive
everything works fine, but, attempting to remove recursively large
directory structures results in the rm application locking. Any further
attempt to examine that portion of the filesystem results in a locked
application. This does not lock the entire machine, and read access to
other parts of the filesystem seem to work fine, but the locked
applications can not be killed or suspended resulting in a dirty
filesystem when the machine is shutdown. The drive will show brief
activity and then idle but the application remains resident in memory and
subsiquent examination of the repaired filesystem after rebooting shows
very little progress was made before the lockup. Any ideas or suggestions
anyone? Thanks for any help in advance.
