I've the same card with a philips cdwriter and a toshiba 15X scsi cdrom.  I
use the same aic7xxx driver which is meant for any adaptec card with  the
aic 7xxx chip.  Win NT reports that the 2910 has the  aic7850  chipset, so
the aic7xxx driver works well with it; sometimes better than the 2940
cards.  I have not had a problem with this driver and the above card.  So I
imagine your tape problems are due to the notoriousness of tape drives in
general.  Any way good luck.
