Umm.. I'm all for helping newbies, but there are a few things you are
missing.

1.  There is plenty of documentation for these types of questions.
Consider reading a unix-faq from
rtfm.mit.edu/pub/usenet-by-hierarchy/comp/unix as well as the Linux-HOWTO.
You will get your answers quicker that way.

2.  This is linux-scsi.  Consider linux-newbie, or a slackware mailing
list.

3.  Considering they got the root password from your system, what else do
you think they got?  Wouldn't it be a good idea to back up your data, and
reinstall?  I know I'd sure put in a trap door.  He's probably mailed your
whole passwd file back to himself..

4.  There are rescue disks at sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/rescue.
