2.0.31 AHA2940+ HP-Dat 1536: System lockups

My system locks up without any messages when doing larger (>100megs)
backups on my HP-1536 Dat-drive using 2.0.31.
Only the reset button can release it.
I had the same problems with the 31-pre series.I skipped 2.0.30, but
2.0.29 was running fine.
I worked around that problem in 31-pre<x> downgrading the driver to
the version included in 2.0.29.
I have/had tagged-queueing, paging and the proc-stats stuff enabled
in 31 and 29.
Any ideas ?
