I've had both the Adaptec 2940UW and the Advansys 940U. Performance
is about equal, however in all other respects the Advansys controllers win
hands-down.
1) $110 for 940U, $150 for 940UW, there is also a 4 channel board for
around $350.
2) Advansys writes their own drivers and supports Linux installations
through their 800 number.
3) The Advansys drivers are stable as a rock and are more configurable
as well. Their /proc/scsi/advansys entry is VERY informative.
