No, it was another Jumper. I compared the jumper settings with the
adaptec in my other box (which works fine), and found that the "auto
sense disable" jumper made the difference.

With this jumper set, linux does not find the devices on bootup. But
only if there is no media inserted. If I insert a zip floppy, linux
finds the device allways, even with the jumper set.
