Here's what I think: I've not heard anything about the DPT support in
linux, but that's probably because I never looked at DPT products to begin
with. I've extensively looked at aha-2940 u/uw, and buslogic bt-948/958,
and so far I've liked the buslogic alot, for the following reasons:
support of the buslogic adapters is at its fullest, and thus performance
is also maximized, but that's not the case with the aha cards. I've
tested both cards under win95/dos, and the aha cards have caused more
conflicts, and I've not witnessed a single conflict yet from the buslogic
cards. At one time I was using a supermicro motherboard, stealth 3d 2000,
aha-2940u, and aha02910b (for cdwriter) and I kept getting a windows
protection error with drivers of the aha-2940u. I'm sure something like
that is least likely to happen in linux given its mastering power, but
several experiences like that with aha cards have made me very skeptical
of them. I don't think the price difference between the aha and
bt-948/958 justifies getting the ahas at all.
Of course by now you might already know that I'm advocating against the
aha cards, but it is your
final decision. I think ultimately when we talk of high performance in
linux we are talking of something that has guaranteed support and
reliability under linux, not something that might give you a headache
while you are trying to figure out what might have gone wrong this time.
Good luck
Robert
