Looks like you're using an older Symbios driver rev. Get an updated
kernel with the ncr53c8xx BSD driver. See
ftp.varesearch.com:/pub/kernel/linux2.0.30-gcc2.7.2. You may want to
try just the binary
/pub/kernel/linux2.0.27-gcc2.7.2/binaries/i386/vmlinuz.va-desktop-generic.
