I was looking around for informations about Western Dig.-SCSI-Cards, that
belongs now to Adaptec. So I asked Adaptec about, and they couldn't (I
mention "wouldn't") help me. So I have the feeling, that they don't
support anything that does not report some profit to them (like Linux).
I also had difficulties to obtain software updates for older Ethercard
equipment which was developped by Cogent, belonging to Adaptec now.
In my opinion Adaptec is interested to make profit, which isn't wrong. But
they tend to be interested only in selling newest equippment and
supporting this for profit bringing OS'es like MicroShit only.
Everything else (older equipment or unsupported OS) has to look around and
hopefully the technical documentation provided by their user support is
good enoughto take full advantages of their products.
At least, the support for newer equipment and their software products
running under MicroShit is really good! (Try the home page www.adaptec.com
(Intresting thing: www.cogent and Corel-SCSI is also pointing to this
site)). For Linux I don't know. Perhaps the driver-people can say
anything?
If I'm looking to the capabilities of the BusLogic driver (Linux), I think
it is better, but I haven't tried it until yet. At least it is
remarquable that they have published their Flash-Support to the Linux
people and the capabilitys mentioned in the driver code are really high
sophistocated.
I also plan to buy new equipment and after my experiences with Western and
Adaptec I think the SCSI-Interface will not come from one of these
companies. So if nobody "prevents" me I will buy BusLogic.
