Buslogic vs. Adaptec... no really...

I know this is slightly off topic and not ver productive towards kernel
progress but I'm interested in knowing some of the finer features of the
available SCSI controllers.

I've been using Adaptec based controllers (aic7xxx) for about two years
now and I've been pretty happy with them (more so since the aic7xxx
driver was added to the kernel a while ago).

One of the few things I don't like about the aic7xxx driver is that
tagged queueing and SMB support is (I understand) iffy at this point.

Since I'm about ready to buy a new motherboard I'll have to buy a new
SCSI controller since mine was a built in aic7870 on the motherboard and
the next motherboard probably won't have a SCSI controller built in.

I've seen quite a few posts about people who have BusLogic controllers
that are happy with them. I've also seen a lot of the motherboards
advertising having built in SCSI BIOS built in. So my two
questions/requests are:

1) what advantages are there to having SCSI BIOS built into a
motherboard if the motherboard doesn't have a SCSI controller built in
to it?

2) and more importantly: I would like some discussion on what the
various advantages and disadvantages there are between using an
Adaptec-2940UW vs. using a BusLogic BT-958 ultra wide controller?
relevant issues to me would most probably be overall performance and the
level of features fully supported under linux at this time.

So far what I've seen are two camps: 1) Buslogic is great, 2) adaptec is
great but not much in the way of reasons why for either one and I would
like to maximize my performance if I have to buy another controller.

Thanks for any feedback,

- Jeff Wiegley
