Linux 1.2.8 is randomly hanging when I try to backup using an
Exabyte 8 mm tape drive connected to an Adaptec 2940 SCSI controller.
It seems to hang while I'm doing a backup, sometimes right away,
other times in the middle, or not at all.

I don't think it completely hangs linux: because I can stilll ping the
machine on the network; and sometimes when I'm running X I can still
move the mouse cursor, but I can't do anything else (ie disk access)

any ideas why Linux is doing this? Harddisk access is fine.
