Hello,

hope someone can offer help with an Adaptec 1540CF/1542CF. I have
had no difficulty recognizing IDE controllers on several pc's and
have successfully installed the latest Slackware from UNC's
Sunsite. But one pc has a 500mb Seagate SCSI and above adapter
and I cannot get the SCSI boot disk to recognize the adapter at
all, possibly because I do not know how to enter the parameters in
correctly. Have already checked cable (SCSI II) and termination,
and the pc already has NT 3.5 server and 3.51 workstation installed and
working. I see in the HOWTO the following references to the 154x:

4.4. Adaptec 154x, AMI FastDisk VLB, Buslogic, DTC 329x (Standard)

     Supported Configurations:

        Ports:
           0x330 and 0x334

        IRQs:
           9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15

        DMA channels:
           5, 6, 7

        IO:
           port mapped, bus master

     Autoprobe:
works with all supported configurations, does not require an
        installed BIOS.

     Autoprobe override:
        none

How do I correctly form the statement to enter at the boot:
prompt? So far I have tried variations of

boot: ramdisk aha154x=PORT,IRQ,DMA

with no success, still no SCSI devices detected. How should I
enter the above? I suspect this is my problem altogether, but I
am not sure. The 154xCF is configured for port 0x230, irq 11,
dma 5, and base io 0xDC000. I noticed the adapter is configured
for port 230 and not 330 or 334 as the SCSI-HOWTO suggests, but
does this mean the aha154x on the SCSI boot disk a will only work
with these ports and not 230? I am not familiar with the
Autoprobe feature either, which if already not known likely gives
away my lack of familiarity with SCSI in the past... Any help
would be greatly appreciated, if I have left out any info I will
certainly repost or send to individual(s). I really need to get
Linux installed on this specific pc with currently installed
SCSI hardware, thanks for any and all help offerred.

Jamie
