Has anyone taken on the Compaq "Fast-Wide SCSI-2" yet?

Hi!
I sincerely hope this is this proper forum for this type of question,
if not, my apologies!
I've been given (at work) this wonderful machine, a Compaq Personal
Workstation 5000, with loads of memory and a Pentium Pro 200MHz ...
A top machine to run Linux -- If I only could manage to figure
out how to access the hard disk ...
To me, the problem is that the SCSI controller is built-in and
somewhat anonymous. The system information says "Embedded Wide
SCSI Controller". (Info from Compaq about Fast-Wide SCSI is at
http://www.compaq.com/support/techpubs/whitepapers/101A0395.html)
I've not been able to find any existing driver driver that works,
some (like st0x and tmc8xx) manage to seemingly find the adapter,
but later on I fail utterly to access any of the devices
/dev/sda through /dev/sdh ...
My very firm suspicion is that no one has, as of yet, written a
driver for this built-in Compaq controller. Proving this assumption
correct is of course difficult, but I would appreciate any comments
there might be on this topic. Of course, most of all I'd appreciate
being proven wrong ...
Thanks in advance for any help!
/Mats
