I am in a similar situation. I have an Adaptec controller built in to the
motherboard. It is an AIC-7860 Ultra Wide v1.24 that is the same chip as
on the newer 2940AU's. I found that I could get partially good results by
booting with the Debian 1.2 boot disk because it has a v2.0.27 kernel.
This chip (and card) seems to be still too new to be properly supported.
Try Debian or maybe the new RedHat 4.0 distribution. All you need is to
download the boot disk to see if it recognizes the scsi host.

Good luck,

Ed
