As promised, an ALPHA-test driver for the Adaptec APA-348 (formerly the
Trantor T348) "mini-SCSI plus" parallel port SCSI host adapter is now
available. You can download the source files:
ftp://ftp.torque.net/pub/t348.c
ftp://ftp.torque.net/pub/t348.h
and try it out. Please read the notes in t348.c for instructions on
compiling the driver as a module and some cautions about what the
driver can and cannot do.
I haven't taken the time to explain how to use a Linux SCSI driver,
if you need to learn the general concepts, please read the
SCSI HOWTO before attempting to use the driver.
I'd like to thank the people who ran the test program that I put
out last weekend, your information was most helpful.
Alas, one thing that we learned from that test program is that the
APA-358 does not respond to the 348 protocol. This should not be
surprising, as the specs for the 358 say that it *requires* an EPP
port (while the 348 is for non-enhanced ports).
A volunteer has come forward to get me access to a 358 for some
initial testing. I will post some information on the web
page at
http://www.torque.net/apa.html
if we make any progress in those investigations.
