Hi Gerard,
You have stated that you wanted to hear from people who are
using NCR 825A SCSI cords. Well, I am currently using one to
interface an Archive Viper 2525 QIC-525 tape drive and a NEC
model 222 CDROM drive. Both of these 8-bit devices are on a
16-bit host control with no 16-bit devices. This works fine
except that disconnections hang the SCSI bus which means that
my current copy of the kernel (2.0.27) with the SCSI driver
(ncr53c8xx - revision 1.16) has SCSI disconnection turned off.
The SCSI host control looks like a Longshine board and is made
in China.
I am in the process of buying a 16-bit SCSI disk drive, but it
will not work very well if SCSI disconnect cannot not be used.
The current main system disk is EIDE. I want to replace it
with a fast wide SCSI disk drive. I am thinking about buying
one of the Tekram DC-390F Ultra Wide SCSI cards to replace the
825A card. I understand this card uses the NCR 875 chip. It
should make for a screaming machine with the new Quantum Atlas
disk drive! :-)
Happy Holidays!
Bill
