My experience with the DAC960 in use with Novell woulc cause me to not
want to put one on a Linux box, too much trouble. In the Novell
environment, you have to run Mylex provided software to configure the
drives, and while it works pretty well, reconfiguring after a failed
drive is a really big pain. I would expect that you would need a
similar program from Mylex to configure an array, unless Linux would
be happy to use one that was configured under dos.
All that being said, since I have one laying around, I might just see
if I can get it to work.

I noticed in the Hardware HOWTO and SCSI howto there is no mention
of the Mylex DAC960 at all - that is as in supported or sketchy and
the never to be supported. I did however find a usenet article which
is stated to be a Mylex press release stateing that Mylex was dedicated
to the support of Linux in their products or something along those lines.
The article was referring to some buslogic/mylex types or something. In
short does anyone know if there will be support for This SCSI raid
controller? Or should I just try selling it off and getting DPT's?
The article was referring to the Linux support for the MultiMaster and
FlashPoint boards. The DAC960 is not currently supported. I will be
discussing support for the DAC960 with the product manager in early January
when he returns from vacation.
The DAC960 is really more of a RAID controller than a general SCSI controller.
While it can execute SCSI commands, it's capabilities in that area are quite
limited. I expect that Linux support would be limited to RAID. My perspective
is that for Linux to work well with the DAC960, we need more than just a driver
that can talk to the controller. The disk array management software also needs
to be available. Without that, we'd be forced to boot another operating system
to perform array management functions. Feel free to disagree with me on this
point if you don't think it's necessary.
In the meanwhile, please let Mylex know that you would like Linux support for
the DAC960. Unlike BusLogic, the Mylex side has little knowledge of Linux and
they need to learn that there's a real market for their products on Linux.
