Hmm, so low-leveling the drive was a no-go, eh?  I'm not sure about pub. 
domain formatters/testers -- the testers tend to be pretty vendor 
specific (which is why I mentioned Compaq's by name).  Does the NCR card 
have a test suite?  All else failing it might be worth a call to SDI - I 
don't have a number for them handy, but they're based in Milpitas, CA.
