100Mbit Fast Ethernet

Hullo,

Having gone through all the ethernet drivers in the 1.2.10 kernel source,
I am left wondering what 100Mbit ("Fast Ethernet") cards are supported. I
noticed a DEC 10/100 EtherWorks driver, and tulip.c, which was written
(thans again, Donald!) for the SMC EtherPower with Digital's 21040 chip. I
went and bought a couple SMC EtherPower 10/100's (there are 2 versions of
the EtherPower: one is 10Mbit only, the other is 10/100). Lo and behold,
the chip is a 21140. Going through tulip.c, I saw a few things I would
change for 21140 use. However, this seems a bit "kludgy", only because I
need the drivers to work in mission-critical environments.

I was wondering if anyone has a PCI Linux machine on a 100Mbit LAN, and
which card(s)/driver(s) are being used, and to what level of success.

I am about to grab the latest 1.3.x kernel and look in there to see if
there is more support for 100Mbit cards. However, due to the critical
nature of my machines (all take a significant network beating) I don't
feel comfortable running 1.3.x on these machines.

Any and all thoughts, ideas, and especially experiences welcome.
