This may have 2 different causes. Case 1 is more likely. Your modem simply
dropped the connection due to line noise. Case 2: your PPP provider droped
the connection without requesting a clean shutdown. Try to look at the modem
link-status screen after hangup.

Use "debug" and "kdebug 1".
