Then I am sorry. I was under the impression that the person was asking
about the patch from 1.2.7 to 1.2.8. If that is the case then he should
definitely apply the patch. Follow the instructions in the README file
in the kernel and do it.

If he was asking about Alan's pre-1.3 networking code, and he does not
know how to use patch, then it will be the least of his problems if he
try to use the networking update. Alan's new networking code is definitely
in the 'bleeding-edge' category.

Linus tends to call his previous stuff 'linux-1.2.7' and the new
directory simply 'linux'.

FWIW: The current, released, stable networking code is called NET3. It
succeded Net-2-Debugged, which succeded Net-2. I am not sure that Alan
has a name for his PRE-1.3 stuff yet, but if there is not one, it will
probably be called NET4.
