Difficulty "loading eth0/eth1 devices" with 1.2.13 and CS-2.7.6

Hello Everybody,
I'm having trouble "loading eth0 or eth1" using Card Services 2.7.6 with kernel
version 1.2.13. I'm using a 3c589 ethernet card.

no dev info for socket 1
el3_interrupt(): irq3 for unknown device

"cat /proc/devices" did show an entry for 'pcmcia'
Also, "lsmod" showed entries for 3c589_cs.
However, "ifconfig" shows only an entry for loopback device.
Does anyone have any idea as to what the problem could be. I would really appreciate any
pointers,
