The SMC Ultra has a separate driver, and the WD 80x3 driver should not
be used with it.  This is almost certainly your problem.  I suspect
your kernel has the WD 80x3 driver compiled in, but not the SMC Ultra
one.  You need a kernel with the SMC Ultra driver compiled in.
