Look into ip masquerading for Linux. You can dial in the Linux box and have it masquerade ("translate") ip's for your private lan. All the computers in your lan would have a special ip addr (192.168.1.x) and they would all "share" the ip addr given to your Linux box by the ISP.

(Private Ethernet Nodes) <--Ethernet----> Linux <---PPP----> ISP

There is limitations to this though... someone on the internet can only initiate a transaction to the Linux box... and the private nodes can't do some things (like ping) because of the masquerading.

The June issue of Linux Journal has a good article on this. You can probably find out more on the internet.. of course. :)

Another cool thing is you could have more than PPP connection in the Linux box to increase the speed of your internet connection.

Subject: Setting up ethernet modem access

I have a peer-to-peer network hooked up in my apartment between 2 computers
running Win95. However, I can't share my modem over this. I also run Linux
on my machine and was wondering if there is a way to allow my roommate's
computer to use my modem. For example, I want my computer to dial into my
ISP. Then, I would like the second computer to be able to telnet out
through my computer. Is there a way to do this? Is there a HOWTO or FAQ on it?

  2nd computer --> ethernet --> Linux computer --> ISP (PPP) --> internet

Thanks for your time.
