A long time ago I compiled kermit on by machine. As far as I remember 
there where several targets in the Makefile for compiling it and the only 
thing you have to do is to select the right one. There where no need to 
change any sources.

Probably you have to supply the right compiler (gcc) in your Makefile. 
Send me a (tailored) log of the error messages. Probably I can help you.

Mosaic should also be able to compile without changes but I need more 
information.

BTW, In the mosaic directory, are there files like:

	Imakefile
	configure?
