I'm using a dial up account getting a dynamic IP address and am not
maintaining a formal domain name. Is there a procedure (or script)
that would determine my current IP address; telnet to the host where
the balance of the web pages I maintain are located; and edit the
files that contain links I'd like pointing to my current address.
My goal is to develop Perl scripts locally (as requested by the
sysadmin of the host) and test (and let others test) Perl scripts.
Specficically, I need to (so far as I know) determine current IP
address; telnet and log into the remote host, open certain specfic
files for editing (though if there's a global search/replace on a
given directory and subs and a way of storing last session's IP
address as teh "search"...great).
If it's not already obvious, I'm a Linux newbie so step-by-step is
very helpful.
many thankx
