Yes and no.
Named opens a separate socket for each local interface ('s address) so =
that
a response can be sent with the correct source address. If that system
doesn't, it has a big problem. Maybe they started the nameserver and th=
en
added another (virtual?) interface. This seems to be a definite Don't i=
tem
and probably should be mentioned in an HOWTO, and/or in the BOG (Bind
Operations Guide), or similar, assuming that it isn't already.
Simple fix: "ndc restart". If they don't have ndc, they're running an o=
ld
version of bind and should upgrade. "ndc reload", aka "killall -1 named=
",
probably won't help, though I think bind should rescan the interface li=
st
and open another bunch of sockets if any new local addresses show up ->
