Is there a reason why tcp (especially telnet) connections need to time
out after ?5? ?15? minutes?

I have recently joined a group that has a 24 hour dialup, and we have a
linux machine doing masquerading. It is not uncommon to telnet to a site
and hope that, after an hour of idle time, the telnet session will still
be open. Instead we are forced to re-telnet.

I am thinking about giving a special case of 'timeout in -1 seconds' to
tcp connections and seeing if that can be treated as never timing out...
to see if this will fix the problem.

Any words of advice before I try to attack this?
