I was getting the exact same behavior on a couple machines using cheap
NE2000 clones. I ditched the NE2000's for SMC Elite, and all is well. Not
even a hiccup since then.
Perhaps Paul's patches work (from the stats and reports I've seen here,
indeed they do), but IMHO it is so much easier (and less costly) to
replace the $40 NE2000 with an $80 SMC Ultra, and avoid the trouble.
