A friend of mine has been having the same problem. On a 386/40 (Amd)
with 8Mb memory, with a ne2000 card (ELAN TBA revision D1 -- if that
means anything), he finds that incoming X connections die overnight.
This is consistent with the card not responding to incoming traffic.
If there are any patches that claim to try and cure this, pass them to me,
and I'll get him to try them. I haven't got him to try Paul's patches,
since they seem to address the problem of the ne2000 locking the machine
solid (which he hasn't had).
At least I can pass on the ping work-around. I think he was wondering
about the ability of Linux networking in general -- I was more willing
to blame the card.
There is also another problem that 1.2.0 fails to find the card when
booting, after shutting down, and he needs to boot 1.1.59 to find the
card, at which point 1.2.0 can find it. Wierd. Any comments?
