Some further info: 538c4c86 is the IP address of a system which is
unreachable (within the same subnet in this case, but happens also with
"outside" systems; independent of OS on peer, it seems).
Now also yielding: 

Apr  1 19:09:15 hostname kernel: Socket destroy delayed (r=0 w=268)

P.S: booting 1.3.80 again, I think...
P.S.2: support for IPX and AppleTalk as modules broke in 1.3.81
(missing symbols like register_8022_client etc.), after working in 
1.3.80 (not before either).
