I didn't get any answers from the Linux-ppp mailing list, so I thought
I'd let the Linux-net list have a crack at it...

Subject: IPX via ppp to LAN?

Hello, everyone!

I've been running ppp since June. Except for stumbling through the
initial config, I haven't had too many problems.

Now that IPX support is available, I would like to permit ppp users to
access their files, mail, etc. on our Novell server which is on the same
ethernet backbone as the Linux box (i.e. no routers, firewalls, etc. to
go through).

I just finished installing kernel 1.3.71 with IPX, ppp (module), and
ethernet (module) support, added the modules, and tested the ppp and
tcp/ip. So far, so good. I reviewed the IPX-HOWTO, but it doesn't
specifically address ppp configurations.

Questions:

1. Do I need additional software to support a simple IPX forward/gateway
as described? Or will I need to setup RIP and SAP as mentioned under
routers in the IPX howto? I'm not Novell savvy, so I'd like to avoid
trial and error configuration.

2. Any advice for the client (PC) side? We're using FTP Software's
OnNet 2.0 ppp driver on the PCs. I know PPP supports multiple protocols,
but I'm not clear on whether PPP would forward IPX packets automatically.

Thanks in advance!
