Linux 1.3.62 with ppp problems

Hi;
I hope the solution for this problem is not very easy because I would
look very naive. Well I have recompiled kernel 1.3.62 WITH ppp support
and every other network support except slip because it produces an error
which I couldn't fix, and after I finished pppd won't work it tells me
that ppp is not supported. So what shall I do ?
